Recently my toddler portrait sessions have been very popular. It’s such a milestone as they turn one year old and are officially no longer a baby, but a toddler!
Toddler photography
It’s always a delight to photograph little ones approaching their first birthday and beyond. Usually they are starting to stand - with some assistance! - and it’s adorable to photograph them holding tightly to mummy or daddy’s fingers to steady themselves. Maybe they’re taking their first baby steps too and I think it’s amazing to have this time recorded on camera to look back on in the years to come. They are usually full of different cheeky expressions and delighted with the simplest things around them. I love to photograph all these natural precious moments! It’s fair to say toddlers are usually very wriggly and tend not to stay still for the slightest moment; however, I am well used to that and only need a split second of a smile to capture it!
First birthday portraits
Very often the first year is lost in a blurry sleep-deprived haze of adjusting to life with a new baby and before you know it your tiny newborn is a chunky-legged toddler! It’s a wonderful time to take stock and celebrate making it this far. Often I am asked about cake smash sessions which is quite trendy at the moment, although generally my preference is for fairly minimal props and simply creating timeless, beautiful portraits.
Holland Park children’s photographer
This lovely collection of family photographs were taken last weekend in Holland Park, Kensington. It is fairly typical of my portrait sessions involving toddlers. We started around 8am which is perfect for very gentle soft light and having the place to ourselves! I adore the tender, proud smiles of the parents and the cheekiness of their baby girl. It’s one of my absolute favourite sessions of late and it was so hard to pick out my favourites for this post. Here's what Verity's mummy had to say about the photos:
