As a West London baby and children's portrait photographer I spend most of my time photographing newborns and families, but more and more my clients are celebrating their pregnancy with beautiful maternity photographs. I absolutely love these beautiful mother and daughter family portraits taken in Richmond Park, SW London. We had the perfect day with late afternoon Spring sunshine, flowers just starting to bloom and soft light filtering through the tree branches.

It is always so special to take pregnancy photos for mummies-to-be, and particularly to include a sibling in the maternity portraits too as it's only a short time before a new baby arrives. I usually suggest any stage from around 28 weeks onwards is a great time for maternity photos, depending on the size of your bump. The photos here were taken at around 38 weeks.

What to wear for your London pregnancy photo shoot

My favourite type of outfit for maternity photographs is soft and floaty because it suits my very feminine, soft style of photography perfectly, and these sort of dresses really show off your baby bump so well. I always take time to help my clients plan what to wear and I'm more than happy to look at different outfit options and give my option! We had in mind that this beautiful lilac silk dress would match the purple heather, and we kept the little one's outfit simple and neutral.
