It was an absolute pleasure to photograph lovely Melissa, a local NCT volunteer, and her toddler, Isaac, on a beautiful warm evening in Holland Park, Kensington in celebration of her second pregnancy.
Natural pregnancy photography
Melissa was looking for a photographer for a 'pregnancy pick-me-up' that "made it all rather glamorous"! My style of outdoor maternity photography is distinctive in the sense it is not overtly glamorous per se, but rather, soft, flattering and beautiful! I specialise in making the most of the location and available natural light to create very natural, yet special, pregnancy portraits that look effortless. I think often it's easy to feel awkward and out of place in front of a camera - perhaps especially with a baby bump! - but my style is very relaxed and supportive with as much direction as you need to create beautiful shapes and lines.
Holland Park portraits
Holland Park is an amazing location in West London with so much variety. As any follower of my photography will know, one of my favourite spots is the ornamental gardens, full of flowers throughout spring and summer. Melissa's maternity photoshoot managed to coincide with the last of the spring tulips and wisteria in full bloom, which gave a lovely pop of colour to the portraits. We were also so lucky to have our very own wind machine that evening!
Toddler and family photos
As always it's special to include an older sibling in maternity photographs, especially as there is often only a matter of weeks before they will need to adjust to life with a new baby in the family! I love to photograph mothers and their little ones and it's a lovely way to record that period of time when they were the sole focus of family life.
