Wimbledon Common in SW London is fast becoming one of my favourite locations for family portraits! The common is full of yellow gorse and silver birch; it’s so pretty in the early morning light with the sun filtering through the trees.
Outdoor family photography
As a specialist outdoor family photographer there is nothing I love more than soft early morning light in a beautiful natural environment. And there are so many pretty ornamental gardens and more rugged outdoor areas to choose from in London! The organic tones and gentle muted colours of Wimbledon Common are perfect as a backdrop to lovely, natural family photographs. I’ll suggest where to stand and ideas for interacting with your little ones so we have you in the most gorgeous light - but the emotion and connection is all you! You can see in this photoshoot a perfect example of what to wear for your family portraits; soft, muted colours in creams, blues and beige tones, which worked perfectly in this location. I do love a pretty little floral print too!
Children’s portraits in South West London
These family portraits were all taken on Wimbledon Common shortly after sunrise in the morning - early is best for the light and often for little ones too. We were so lucky with a beautiful sunny spring morning, although it was certainly on the chilly side! I always suggest bringing warm coats which you can take on and off for the photos and snacks; we had a little break for chocolate croissants to keep the little ones going! This family also all wore wellies because it had rained heavily the night before. As you can see, I rarely photograph footwear and in any event, wellies don’t look out of place in the woods!
