It is possible that I love my winter family portrait sessions even more than summer! There is something really magical about frosty mornings where everything crackles underfoot and your breath hangs in the air; it can get little ones really excited about being outdoors too!

This delightful family from Chicago have just moved to Notting Hill in West London. We were all up early for their family portrait photoshoot in Richmond Park to mark Ayanna's 3rd birthday. There was so much bracken and grasses to explore, all coated with frost which really added to to magic of these family photos. Ayanna was an absolute trooper; every time she fell down she just picked herself up and dusted herself off. I guess they make them tough in Chicago! Oh, and doesn't she just have the cutest dimples?!

As you will probably know, Richmond Park in SW London is one of my favourite spots for outdoor family photos in the middle of winter because of the bracken and long golden grasses which hold their colour all year round. There also so much to interest children, particularly when they are really young, because the point is to capture their natural, relaxed expressions, rather than having them pose for the camera!
