This lovely family of five has only just relocated to Chiswick from the US and this was their first family photoshoot here in London. Amazingly we had the most perfect sunny spring day for their outdoor session and these cuties came decked out in their finest outfits!
Children's portrait photography
We chose the Isabella Plantation in South West London for this family photoshoot, which is so pretty and almost deserted first thing in the morning. It was absolutely amazing how well-behaved the three little ones were, aged 2, 3 and 6 years old. They had been bribed with lunch at one of their favourite places after the session and it obviously did the trick! However it is fair to say that this is unusual, children are unpredictable and that's perfectly fine. I always make the most of the natural surroundings; the ducks in the pond, the tree trunk to climb on, or the colourful flowers to distract them and encourage them to explore. There is ALWAYS a moment to photograph children absorbed in what they are doing, or looking up with delight at something they've seen and these are very often the most magical portraits of all. It is really not about smiling for the camera - although we do try that too (grandparents always like these the most)!
Mum was really keen to do a couple of different outfits for the kids and it was warm enough to do a quick swap - everyone getting stuck in to help! I particularly loved little Sebastian's pink seersucker trousers in the matching heather, and his sweet little bow tie!
Natural family photography
Here's what mum Cecily had to say about the photographs from our session:
Heather, you are amazing! My kids are still talking about how amazing you are! I can't thank you enough!
