All of my indoor family photography sessions take place at my clients' homes. Mummy Beki commissioned this lifestyle session with the goal of creating some natural, unposed portraits of 4 month old baby Freddie and of the whole family. Whilst there are times it would be lovely - for me! - to have a studio space clients can come to, I find my clients seek me out not just for my very natural style of family photography, but invariably because I travel to them. This seems to particularly be the case with new parents who are not yet up to travelling in the very early days, but also parents with an older child, where leaving the house with an energetic toddler as well as a newborn baby is just too much to take on! I think there is also something lovely about family portraits being taken in the family home which gives a real sense of place and authenticity to the photos, in contrast to the less personal look of a studio environment.

Whilst the emphasis was on baby Freddie, we also included his sister, 3 year old Francesca, in the photographs, who was particularly keen to show off her ballet gear. Daddy Ed managed to sneak away from work to join us for a short while - I especially love the sweet photos of him making eye contact with baby. At that age babies are so alert and often very smiley too, in real contrast to the sleepy newborn stage, and with gorgeously chunky legs and arms! As usual, I also turned some of the portraits into softly grained black and whites.
