Even in the depths of an icy winter, it's still possible to create beautiful outdoor pregnancy portraits! In the bleakest of winter months there is something utterly magical about early mornings on Hampstead Heath when the sun is shining. In this lovely session, Zahra and her husband Rory braved the frost for a outdoor pregnancy photoshoot and the results are beautiful! The white frost sparkling and crunching underfoot and the golden shafts of sunlight through the mist was stunning. Zahra is now on maternity leave and regularly walks on the Heath early each day; it was particularly lovely to have this photoshoot in a place which has special meaning to the couple - something to consider if you are planning on commissioning your own pregnancy photos!
Maternity photos in winter
It's so important with all pregnancy photo shoots to be comfortable in the outfits you choose to wear, in terms of a style that suits you and also appropriate for the weather! Obviously in the winter months this is particularly worth being aware of - floaty gowns are just not going to cut it! Zahra was dressed so well in a gorgeous wool dress and matching coat that worked perfectly on the Heath. Most importantly she was warm and snug - although it's fair to say that she was extra warm from being pregnant! I am always available to give advice on what to wear for maternity photos in winter, or throughout the year.
Pregnancy photography with partner
My clients will often ask if they can bring their husband or partner along with them and the answer is always - of course! They are more than welcome and I actively encourage their involvement. Whilst a majority of the photographs will feature mum-to-be and baby bump, it is also lovely to photograph the couple together - after all, pretty soon they'll be joined by a little person and life will never the same again! I am sensitive to expecting parents being nervous about being photographed and will happily direct and pose you as needed. Here's what dad-to-be Rory had to say when he saw the photos:
