Kew Gardens family portraits

Mummy & Me photoshoot | Kew Gardens Family Photography

Meet adorable curly-haired Aidan and his mummy, Kelly who I photographed last week at the wonderful Kew Gardens in West London. Kelly asked me to take some natural family portraits of her and her little one, as so often it's mummies behind the camera, which is exactly what my "Mummy & Me" sessions are for.

Outdoor family portraits in Kew

As a outdoor child and family photographer that works purely on location, it can be challenging to work around the temperamental British weather, but it can be done! Even though Spring has now officially arrived, there are still some chilly days, and Kew Gardens is the perfect location for such times. All these portraits were taken on a cloudy day in the warmth of the Kew hothouses, which I love for the beautiful, soft, luminous light they give - and the fact that my clients don't have to be bundled up in coats! There is also so much for children to see and explore in the greenhouses, including the birds singing in the Palm House, tropical lily ponds and dangling orchids in the Princess of Wales conservatory.

Natural children's portrait photography in London

It's really important to my style of photography to capture little ones being themselves and their genuine expressions. This is one of the reasons why I love outdoor family photography so much, as it is vibrant and ever-changing, and gives children room to play and explore. I particularly adore the photo of Aidan looking up for the birds singing in the Palm House, with an expression of great concentration on his face.

Here's a few of my favourite photos from our shoot!
