Autumn has truly arrived these last couple of weeks with chilly misty mornings and the leaves turning yellow and golden. It is such a wonderful time of year for family portraits, especially with the sun setting so much earlier which means we can make the most of the golden hour. It is perhaps my favourite month for family photography!
Outdoor family photography
As a family photographer specialising in outdoor photography I am in love with colourful foliage and grasses lending texture and beautiful tones to the background of my portraits. I am obsessed with the way the light falls through the leaves and branches and that beautiful rich golden tone that you get near sunset. This family photoshoot features little Céline age two and a half who was so excited to be out running around in the fresh air! As you can see in the photographs below she was absolutely full of priceless expressions and mischief.
Natural children's portraits
I am not particularly one for elaborate props in children's photographs and prefer to keep things simple and natural. I do however have a trusty old wooden crate which is truly vintage - my father has a whole stash of these old Scottish whisky boxes and they are perfect for using in my sessions. Kids love to climb on them, or sit in them - and they are useful for posing adults on too. Little Céline decided she was going to play hide and seek behind the crate during this photoshoot and then climbed into it whilst her mother swung her around! I am always amazed how much interest children find in the most simple of things. There is a lesson there I am sure!
