Family portraits in Holland Park
Holland Park remains one of my most regular locations for family photoshoots in London. We have used it twice now for this family’s portraits - the first with big brother William a couple of years ago, and now with his new brother Teddy, 18 months old. I have been running a family photography business in London for over 4 years now, so each summer I have many clients coming back for updated family photos. It’s so lovely to develop a relationship with those families and meet their latest additions! Even from a practical perspective it’s great because I already know something about them and we can hit the ground running. That said, it is becoming harder and harder to find room for new clients - especially for summer weekends!
Documentary and lifestyle family photography
This family photoshoot is a great example of the range of portraits I try to take within a session, especially when there are young kids who are definitely not going to sit still for a classic portrait for any length of time at all! I always try to mix it up, so we are doing a few posed photos, and plenty of documentary style and lifestyle photos too. Often these turn out to be my favourite shots from a shoot - like the photo of Teddy and his father walking up the steps together taken from behind, or the photo of William flying around at breakneck speed clutching his toy train. It’s so evocative of kids at that age, and so much more true to life. Even the “outtakes” were so full of love and life that the family purchased many of those photos too. They will be hilarious to look back on in the years to come!
London family photography
My family photography is exclusively based outdoors, which always generates such lovely natural photos, and gives space for kids to run around in. My most favourite locations in London for photoshoots are currently Battersea Park and Holland Park, for the variety of backgrounds within the relatively small locations.
