These natural family photographs were commissioned to celebrate and record little Millie's first birthday! I am often booked for family portrait sessions instead of, or as well as, photographing the actual birthday party (which tends to have more of a documentary style). It's wonderful to capture those sweet moments between parents and children and create some really beautiful portraits that you'll want to frame and hang on the wall.

We were so lucky with a lovely sunny day in late April - perfect weather for Millie's sweet outfit and sun hat. Millie and her parents live in Earlsfield, so we decided on Wimbledon Common for our photo shoot. It's a great location which lends itself really well to a relaxed, natural session. Millie loved exploring the paths and natural environment - I always find that children this age are fascinated with picking up little stones! At 12 months old, she was also just beginning to find her feet and starting to stand by herself. It's wonderful to have photographs of such a milestone in a child's development. As usual we did lots of photos of Millie by herself, with each parent and also as a family unit. One tip for getting the most out of your family portrait session, especially if you are apprehensive about being photographed, is to concentrate on your children! The best photos come about when the parents are engaged with the kids, either playing with them or giving them lots of love and affection.
