Family photography with grandparents | South West London

Family portrait photographer South West London

It’s so wonderful to include grandparents in family portraits and so many of my clients decide to time their photoshoots to coincide with family visiting from overseas. Just in the last week I’ve had two separate sessions with grandparents where the photos were a gift for a grandparent's birthday. This lovely session was taken late one afternoon in early September in Battersea Park, South West London. The family had been based in London for the past year but were about to move to Hong Kong. Their Australian grandparents were just in the UK for a few short days so we timed it well. I love the natural interaction of the little two year old with his grandparents - they will treasure these photos! Of course we made time for some more classic portraits of the whole three generations too.

Fine art wall prints

Whilst everyone needs digital images these days, I do love creating fine art prints for my clients. This family decided to order two large mounted prints size 20x30” which are a great size to properly fill a wall space. It’s so easy for digital photos to live on a laptop and rarely be looked at! In my experience clients hardly ever get around to ordering prints themselves as life is so busy, so it’s lovely to be able to help clients with this aspect of family portraits so they can enjoy them as much as possible!

Battersea Park family photos

I had never been much of a fan of Battersea Park for family photos until this year - now I am using it for so many of my sessions! It has so much variety with the flower garden and ornamental pond, the river and the fountains. And it is great in the autumn with the leaves of the large plane trees changing colour. It’s funny how locations can look so different on camera compared to the naked eye - especially with the sort of lenses that I use, which intentionally create such a soft, out-of-focus background. Very often it is the quality of the light in a particular spot which is the key element (for example, trees with light foliage which soften bright sunshine, or a white gravel pathway which reflects the light back onto my subjects’ faces). As well as colours, textures and space, the light is the main thing I am looking out for when choosing a perfect spot for family sessions! Here’s a few favourites from this shoot.
